A bit about me:
I am Professor of Spanish and Applied Linguistics at the Spanish Division of the Department of Languages and Literatures of Europe and the Americas (LLEA) and Associated Graduate Faculty of the department of Second Language Studies (SLS) at the University of Hawai'i, Manoa. I am originally from Valladolid, Spain and I have lived in Hawaii for 25 years.

I am honored to be among the world’s 2% most-cited researchers and among top 400 world linguists according to the 2023 Stanford University’s ranking (Elsevier Data Repository).
My research focuses on technology-mediated language learning, Task-based Language Teaching, and L2 pragmatics and has been published in journals such as Foreign Language Annals, LL&T, CALICO, Language Teaching Research, Annual Review of Applied Linguistics, and TASK.
I enjoy talking to other scholars and practitioners and I have given more than 80 invited talks and workshops, and 17 plenary/keynote talks all over the world. I am currently co-editor of the Task-based Language Teaching book series (John Benjamins), editor of the Pragmatics & Language Learning book series (NFLRC). I have served as a CALICO board member (2014-2017) and President of CALICO (2020-2022). Currently, I serve in multiple academic journals and advisory committees, such as the Advisory Committee for the new ACTFL Guidelines (2024).

I teach courses on Spanish language, linguistics, second language acquisition, teacher training, critical digital literacies, and CALL. Several of them are online or hybrids. I enjoy learning and working with new technologies and sharing what I know.
